Implementation of an Automated Compliance Review Program for Briefs

Friday, May 3, 2024
In the coming days, the Clerk’s Office for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit will implement a new automated compliance review program for briefs electronically filed through ECF. The compliance review program scans briefs – before filing – for compliance with the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure and this Court’s local rules. The program also may be accessed under the Utilities tab in ECF using the Check PDF function. Using this functionality allows a brief to be preliminarily reviewed for compliance any time before filing.

Please note that the compliance review program is based on a text search of the brief. Accordingly, the program may mistakenly report a deficiency when none exist. The program does not prevent a brief from being filed. The Clerk’s Office does not issue deficiency notices based solely on the compliance review program. Instead, after filing, a deputy clerk will review the brief to determine whether a deficiency notice should issue.
