Common Browser Issues and Fixes – Internet Explorer and Firefox

CM/ECF and Web Start

Due to changes with Firefox, Appellate CurrentGen CM/ECF will need to be launched using Java Web Start rather than the Java Applet when using the Firefox browser. The Java Applet versions of Appellate CurrentGen CM/ECF still will be usable and is recommended for Internet Explorer.

Java Web Start Quick Overview

Browsers and Java Web Start Detailed Information

Java

Java Version Test for Appellate CM/ECF
Java either is not installed or is disabled in your browser.
You must install/enable Java before you can file in Appellate CM/ECF.

If the Java test results do not appear you either do not have Java installed or it is not enabled on your browser.

You must have the current version of Java to file documents using Appellate ECF. To download Java, go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html (link is external). Users should download the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) version.

If you have Java related issues with ECF, please visit the PACER Appellate page (https://www.pacer.gov/psco/cgi-bin/cmecf/ea-regform.pl) to check if the version of Java installed is compatible with ECF.

Windows 10 and the Edge browser

Java can be installed and run on Windows 10. However, the new browser in Windows 10 called Edge does not support plug-ins and therefore will not run Java. Attorney filers can use Internet Explorer 11 and FireFox to file in CM/ECF.   See Using Internet Explorer on Windows 10.
